Spring Shield Indumba 2026 Spring Shield Indumba is a portal, paying homage to Pina Bausch’s The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du printemps) (1975) and the sacred space, the Indumba, of the traditional Southern African Sangoma.
Traditional whitework embroidery techniques of double back stitch and shadow work trap memorabilia from an ordinary life in uncertain times between two gossamer layers of silk organza with cotton floss to form the shape of a shield (of inconceivable merit), suspended above a mound of (peat-free) compost.
The idea for the work emerged during a British Art Network workshop and the final outcome was commissioned by zack mennell for common host in March 2026.
